The Houston seventh grade boys’ basketball tournament finished second in the Cabool Tournament with a 37-30 loss Saturday to Mountain Grove.

The Tigers, who were led by Devin Garrett’s 20 points, had lost to Mountain Grove by 20 points just two weeks earlier.

“Mountain Grove has a very talented group of seventh graders that are very strong and athletic,” Houston coach Willy Walker said. “They are able to put a tremendous amount of pressure on other teams in the backcourt. We were able to make some adjustments to deal with the pressure, but we were unable to execute these adjustments to change the outcome of the game.

In Thursday’s semifinal, Garrett scored 14 and Kolby Walker added 13 in a 35-27 victory against Willow Springs.

Houston finished with a 10-3 record.

“I am very proud of the seventh graders’ accomplishments,” Walker said. “They always showed up willing to learn and work hard.”
