Cleda Goldie Wells, 92, of Bland, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.
She was born July 12, 1917, in St. Francois County, daughter of James Franklin and America Alice Barton Sawyer. She and Floyd Carl Wells were married Dec. 19, 1939, in Houston.
She and her husband moved from Salem to the Bland area in the early 1950s. They had previously lived in St. Louis, Owensville and Canaan.
She was a homemaker and housewife. She lived independently for 90 years until the past year, when she was cared for by her granddaughter, Cindy Freeman.
She confirmed her faith in Christ and was baptized at the hospital just before she died.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd; two sons, Ronald Wells and an infant, Billy Gene Wells; and a grandson.
Survivors include three sons, James Carl Wells and Gary Lavern Wells of Bland and Jerry Joe Wells of Rolla; two brothers, Johnny Sawyer of Sandy Hook and Samuel Sawyer of Raymondville; three sisters, Sylvia Goucher of Independence, Nettie Conley and Kathleen Sawyer of Houston; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Services were Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Sassmann Funeral Home in Bland.
