The Houston Tigers extended their season-best winning streak in thrilling fashion.

Jesse Setters hit a pair of late 3-pointers and Kyle Poynter scored the go-ahead basket with 15 seconds remaining as the Tigers outlasted Mountain Grove 84-83 Tuesday night in double overtime.

Houston (8-9) was fortunate to escape with its fourth straight win. Poynter drained a 3-pointer from about 30 feet to force overtime, and Mountain Grove missed a pair of free throws with 0.01 seconds left in the first overtime.

“It was exciting from start to finish,” Houston coach Brent Hall said.

Poynter scored a game-high 37 points as he eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his short career with the Tigers. He has scored 1,003 in less than two seasons and could surpass the school record of 1,019 — set by David Hall from 1970-’73 — Friday when Houston travels to Thayer.

Sophomore Curry Van Horn hit four 3-pointers en route to 19 points. Setters had two triples and scored eight of his 10 points in the second overtime.
