The tally collected by merchants from a one-cent sales tax was $58,909, which was down $620 from the same period a year ago. For the year, $109,980 has been generated. That’s a decrease of about $4,566 from last year.

Two quarter-cent sales taxes totaled about $13,462 – a decrease of about $254 each from a year ago. The money is used for streets and sidewalks, as well as utility work.

An eighth-cent sales tax used for debt repayment on a fire truck totaled $6,725 for the month. That’s a decrease of $132 from a year ago.

The reports are considered a good barometer of economic activity.
