Virginia Elkouri

Virginia Jean Elkouri, 82, of Eureka, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at her home due to a heart ailment.

She was born July 18, 1927, in El Dorado, Okla., daughter of Richard and Rosa Yarid Elkouri.

She moved with her family in 1933 to Snyder, where her parents established The People’s Store, a dry goods store located downtown. She graduated in 1944 as valedictorian from Snyder High School. She worked at her parents’ store for more than 30 years.

She found Christ as her Savior at an early age. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, was a song leader and served in other manners.

In 1975, she moved to Oklahoma City, where she worked in retail clothing for several years. After a short stay in Artesia, N. M., she moved to Eureka, where her nephew, Chris, and his wife, Lisa Neugebauer, lived.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Snyder, Okla., and attended Central Baptist Church with her family. She volunteered at the Hilltop Manor Apartment front desk where she lived.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Dorothy Hargrove.

Survivors include a brother, Richard Elkouri of Duncan, Okla.; two sisters, Evelyn Connor of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Loretta Price of Houston; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were Saturday, March 27, at Souls Harbor Family Worship with Pastor Cordie Wimberley officiating. Burial was in Pine Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
