Bernard James Friel, 68, died due to lingering health problems.

He was born Sept. 16, 1941, in Glasgow, Scotland, son of Joseph and Rose Ellen Doyle Friel.

Upon arriving in the United States, he served in the Army from Oct. 17, 1968, to Dec. 23, 1971. He then served in the Army Reserves until Oct. 16, 1974.

He worked as a draftsman in the construction industry. He was known as “Scotty” by many in the Summersville and Hartshorn area because he had the Scottish brogue.

He lived in the Phoenix area for many years.

Survivors include a daughter, Erin Kathleen Kinserlow, of Summersville; and two grandchildren.

Memorial services are 2 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at Antioch Cemetery with the Rev. Arvel Schweighauser officiating. Services were under the care of Bradford Funeral Home.
