Fire spreads through the woods during a recent grass fire fought near Highway VV in eastern Texas County. About 100 acres were burned. Over the last several weeks, area fire departments have responded to numerous grass and brush fires.

Grass and brush fires have kept firemen busy across the county.

On Saturday, firemen from the Tyrone Fire Department were called to Roberts Road north of Highway H to battle a grass fire. The Houston Rural Fire Department was called to give mutual aid. Later Saturday night, Tyrone was called back to the scene.

Firefighters from Plato, Roby and Huggins were called Saturday night to fight a grass fire at Highway M and Turley Road.

The National Weather Service said a combination of low relative humidity and gusty winds are creating an elevated fire risk. Open fires in these conditions can quickly escape control, it said.
