James Roy Arthur, 69, of Neosho, died Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Landmark Hospital at Joplin. The son of Elmer and Edna Anderson Arthur, he was born June 18, 1940, at Bucyrus.

Mr. Arthur worked as a merchant seaman on the Great Lakes, was employed on the Ford Motor Co. assembly line and had other vocations over the years, truck driver and owned and operated a laundry business in Houston.

He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Fern Ballard of Mountain Grove.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Ortiz Arthur; three sons, Dan and Roy, Tulsa; and Steve, Neosho; two sisters, Elinor Dablemont, Rogers, Ark., and Georgia Flowers of Ironton; a brother, Jerry, Wichita Falls, Texas; and five grandchildren.

Memorial services are 11 a.m. Saturday, May 1, at Parker Mortuary and Crematory, Joplin.
