Texas County finished the first week of the spring turkey season in third place in Missouri, the Missouri Department of Conservation said.
Jeff Crites, a local agent, said hunters killed 381 birds in the county. The breakdown: adult gobblers, 295; bearded hen, 8; and juvenile gobbler, 78.
Statewide, hunters killed 21,021 birds.
The other top counties were: Franklin, 450; and St. Genevieve, 393.
The season runs through May 9.
