The Willow Springs tennis team won the final doubles match Friday to squeak past Houston 5-4.

The teams split the six singles matches. Michael Castleman and Austin Bathon each won 8-4, and Michael Shea was victorious 8-6.

Andrew Finn and Amber Honig were each defeated 8-5. Samantha Jones lost her match 8-2.

The Bears won two of the three doubles matches. Castleman and Bathon were 8-3 winners.

“This was the most fun I have had this year,” Houston coach John Jordan said. “We could have either won easily or lost badly, so for this match to go down to the last doubles match, it was exciting. Although we didn’t win, you can see improvement in our team.”

In JV doubles, Randy Barker and Drake Bell lost 6-3.
