Sales tax revenue jumps in Houston
Merchants’ cash registers were ringing during the latest sales tax reporting period for Houston, Mo., according to a Missouri Department of Revenue report.
Revenue from a one-cent sales tax totaled $47,453, which is up about $4,455 from the same period a year ago. For the first four months of the year, collections total $206,316, which is down about $3,939 for the year.
Proceeds from two quarter-cent sales taxes earmarked for transportation and sidewalks, as well as utility work, totaled $11,314, which is up about $900 each from a year ago.
Another $5,657 from an eighth-cent sales tax will go toward debt repayment on a city fire truck.
