The Houston tennis team earned a convincing 8-1 road victory Tuesday at Licking.
Tyler Guynn, Austin Bathon and Amber Honig each won their respective singles matches 8-0. Samantha Jones, Michael Shea and Michael Castleman each won 8-1.
In doubles play, Bathon and Castleman won 8-1, and Randy Barker and Drake Bell were victorious 9-7.
On Thursday, the Tigers were defeated 7-0 at Salem.
The final two matches were rained out.
At last week’s SCA tournament, Houston finished second among four teams. Salem won the event, followed by the Tigers, Willow Springs and Liberty.
Finn and Tyler each finished second in their respective singles matches. Finn lost his championship match 8-1, 3-8, 8-0. Guynn was defeated 8-3, 1-8, 8-4.
The doubles teams of Jones and Shea and Bathon and Castleman each finished third.
“I’m really proud of our kids, but there is still room for big improvements,” Houston coach John Jordan said. “Our second serves really need work.”
