Houston eighth graders Maddie Vandiver and Belle Knarr each earned first-place finishes May 4 at the SCA track meet in Willow Springs.
Vandiver won the girls’ 100-meter dash. Knarr finished first in the shot put.
Vandiver also finished second in the 75 hurdles, and Knarr was fourth in the discus.
Fourteen of Houston’s 16 participants in the meet earned ribbons.
The 800 relay team of Vandiver, Courtney Mutzebaugh, Kylee Elmore and Cheyenne Carney finished third. Elizabeth Jenkins was third in the 75 hurdles.
Seventh grader Olivia Woosley was second in the high jump and 400. She finished third in the 200. Elmore tied for fourth in the high jump.
Lucas Walker finished fifth in the 1600 for the seventh grade boys. Austin Foster was sixth in the 800.
Aaron Cantrell was third in the 400 and fourth in the long jump for the eighth grade boys. Colin Floyd finished third in the discus. Jason Wink was fifth in the 1600 and sixth in the 200.
Dalton Hale placed sixth in the high jump.
The 400 relay team of Hale, Cantrell, Wink and Austin Foster placed fifth.
At the final regular-season meet April 27 in Salem, Vandiver won the 100 and placed second in the 75 hurdles.
The 400 relay team of Vandiver, Knarr, Mutzebaugh and Jenkins finished first.
Elmore placed fourth in the high jump. Knarr was fourth in the shot put and sixth in discus. Jenkins finished sixth in the 75 hurdles.
For the boys, Foster placed third in the high jump and sixth in the 100. Cantrell was fifth in the 400, and Colin Floyd placed fifth in the discus.
Six teams competed at the meet, which combined seventh and eighth graders.
