Dr. Eugene C. Honeywell

Dr. Eugene Charles Honeywell, 66, family practice physician in Licking, Mo., passed away Friday, June 18, 2010. He was born to Roy and Lucinda (Lucy) Mongiat Honeywell on Sept. 27, 1943, in Chicago, Ill. On Aug. 16, 1992, he married his best friend and love of his life, Carol Ann Stone.

Gene earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Central Missouri State University and later earned his Doctor of Osteopathy Degree from the University of Health Medicine in Kansas City.

He began his career as a college professor of Physics in McPherson, Kan. In 1971, he moved to Lee’s Summit, Mo., teaching high school physics. In 1973, Gene returned to school to earn his doctorate degree in Osteopathic Medicine (DO). In 1978, he joined his father in his family medical practice in Chariton, Iowa. When his father retired, Gene continued to practice at Total Health Care. In 1991, Gene left Chariton and began his family practice at the TCMH Family Clinic and Licking Park Manor in Licking and was a member of the active staff of Texas County Memorial Hospital until his health prevented him from doing what he loved most – taking care of people. Gene’s days were filled with hospital rounds, seeing patients in the office and house visits after hours for those who were unable to come into the office. His phone rang any hour of the day or night, and he never complained because someone needed his help.

Gene was an avid golfer and prankster. He loved to travel, spend time at his lake home and one of his greatest joys was spoiling his delightful grandchildren.

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Carol; daughter, Julie and husband, Mike Ohrazda, of Skokie, Ill.; son, Mark and his wife, Norma, of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren, Nathan and Alison Ohrazda and Eugene Charles Honeywell II; a brother, John Kenneth of Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Lola, of Medford, Ore.; half brothers and sisters, David, Debbie, Steve, Pete and Tammy; a mother-in-law, Bonnie Stone, of Chariton, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Sherri (Gary) Chandler; brother-in-laws, Karl (Lori) Stone, Kirk (Rita) Stone, and Don (Cris) Stone; and many nieces and nephews.
