The Houston Visitors Center

Members of Downtown Houston made plans recently for an open house to showcase the Houston Visitor’s Center.

The group renovated the former Haney’s Market at North U.S. 63 and Oak Hill Drive using private donations. In addition to the visitor’s center, the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce also is located there. It is situated near the Village Trail, a walking venue.

Members discussed displays that will showcase the area, and will work toward acquiring special museum-type wall hanging apparatuses to display photos, painting and other items that depict the area. Flowers were planted this week.

No date for the open house has been set.

The group also discussed exterior signage, landscaping and other projects that need to be completed at the site. Members also received an update on its membership drive. About 70 have paid dues.
