Dr. Eugene Honeywell practiced from Licking since 1991.

Services for Dr. Eugene Honeywell, a Licking doctor, are 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, at the Licking Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Honeywell, 66, died Friday at Texas County Memorial Hospital following a battle with cancer. Arriving in Licking in 1991, Honeywell operated his practice from a Texas County Memorial Hospital clinic on the town’s Main Street. His work ethic was well known to his patients: Dr. Honeywell arrived early and worked late. That commitment funneled to Houston, where he was the county institution’s top admitting physician.

When he wasn’t in the clinic, he was making rounds at the hospital, where he served many years as chief of staff. He most recently led an effort to develop a strategic plan for the hospital within its service area.

Despite the demands of his practice, Dr. Honeywell and his wife, Carol, found time for community activities. He led many efforts to better the town.

Visitation for Dr. Honeywell is 3 – 8 p.m. Monday at Fox Funeral Home. The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m.

Internment is Thursday, June 24, in Chariton, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Texas County Memorial Hospital Healthcare Foundation, 1333 S. Sam Houston Blvd., Houston.

About 600 gathered in Licking to greet Dr. Honeywell and his wife, Carol, in 1991.
