Don Troutman, county clerk

Texas County Clerk Don Troutman announced this week that Texas County will join other county governmental units across the country in participating in a free prescription discount card.

The National Association of Counties program is set to roll out. Cards are available from county officials, at this week’s fair and at county offices and departments.

The program is not insurance. Discounts are available at participating pharmacies. By using the card, persons agree to pay the entire prescription cost less any applicable discount. Participants may call toll-free 877-321-2652 for additional regarding this program. A person also can visit caremark.com/naco to look up a participating pharmacy, a price estimate for a prescription, along with other health-related information.

Participants save an average of about 22 percent on their prescription medicine. There is no enrollment form, no membership fee, only one card for immediate use.

Families can use the prescription discount card any time a prescription is not covered by insurance. There are no restrictions and no limits on how many times the card is used.

On the back of each discount card there is information, a website and phone number for local pharmacists to use to process claims regarding the CVS Caremark program.
