Irene Faye Maness, 92, died Monday, June 21, 2010, in Marshfield with her family by her side.
She was born May 7, 1918, near Solo, daughter of Bill and Fern Byrd Parmenter. She and Wayne Maness were married Sept. 17, 1938, in West Plains. He died in 1990.
Irene was raised and lived most of her life in and around the Elk Creek, Tyrone and Cabool communities.
She loved music and in her earlier years played the piano and guitar. She sang with the Byrd Quartet in local churches.
She loved cooking for her family, hosting visitors and watching her children play sports. She enjoyed kids, going out to eat, flowers and quilting.
She was of the Baptist faith and was saved and baptized at an early age.
She was a homemaker and drove the truck on her husband’s milk route. She was later a school cook at Elk Creek, rural mail carrier and postmaster at Elk Creek.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; and three brothers, Dean, Bo and Lee.
Survivors include a special friend, Al Melton of Cabool; two sons, Ron Maness and Rick Maness of Marshfield; a brother, Billy Parmenter of Foristell; a sister, Patty Hamilton of Cabool; two granddaughters; a grandson; a great-grandson; and many other relatives and friends.
Services were Friday, June 25, at Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bob Marti officiating. Burial was in Cabool Cemetery.
