Paul E. McKee, 70, of Jefferson City, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at his home.
He was born May 6, 1940, in Hartshorn, son of Russell and Thelma Barton McKee. He and Norris Cashatt McKee were married Sept. 10, 1960.
He attended high school in Summerville, where he graduated as class valedictorian. He went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla.
Paul worked at MoDOT as a civil engineer from 1964 until 1994. He was a past member the volunteer fire department and emergency medical first responders squad in Cole County. He’s been a member of the First Assembly of God Church and Solid Rock Family Church. He was a member of the Mended Hearts Group at St. Mary’s Health Center and volunteered at the Special Learning Center.
He was a master wood craftsman and made special therapy toys for disabled children. He was also active with the Muscular Dystrophy Association. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, woodworking and electronics. He built his first computer in the 1970s and taught himself basic programming at MoDOT, which purchased some of its first software from Microsoft.
Survivors include his mother, Thelma McKee of Summersville; four children, Rachel McKee, Glenda McKee and Philip McKee of Jefferson City and Edith McKee of Stanton; two sisters, Betty Bennett of Jefferson City and Judy Talley of Wright City; a brother, Steve McKee of Summersville; and seven grandchildren.
Services were Friday, July 16, at Midvale Pentecostal Holiness Church in Summersville. Burial was in Midvale Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of House-Millard Funeral Directors of Jefferson City. Local services were under the care of Bradford Funeral Home
