The final section of the U.S. 60 four-lane expansion opened shortly after noon Friday. The opening of this final part, from Winona in Shannon County to just west of Highway C in Carter County, completes a “gap” of four-lanes that had existed.
New signs and pavement markings were in place to alert motorists to the shift. In addition, MoDOT and contractor crews were stationed at various county road entrances as the new section was opened to alert drivers.
Drivers are urged to continue to pay special attention when entering U.S. 60 from a county road or entrance. Intersections affected by Friday’s opening include:
Highway 19 North, in Winona
Highway 19 South, in Winona
Highway DD, Shannon County
Highway W, Shannon County
Highway P, Carter County
Highway Y, Carter County
Highway J, Carter County
According to South Central District Engineer Tom Stehn, the opening is a significant achievement. “We made a commitment to Missourians to expand Route 60 to a four-lane facility, now we are delivering on that commitment. We are pleased to bring this transportation improvement to southern Missouri, ” he said.
