William “Bill” Claud Smith, Jr., 76, son of William Claud and Lula (Turner) Smith, was born June 11, 1934 in Big Piney, Mo. He passed away July 3, 2010, at Texas County Memorial Hospital, Houston, Mo.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edna Smith; stepmother, Edna Smith; and a sister, Vesta Welch.
He is survived by his daughter; Connie Kennedy of Nixa, Mo.; three granddaughters, Bridgett Rodriguez, Nichol Kennedy and Kristin Kennedy; six great-grandchildren, Mya Lewis, R’iana Haney, Marquees McDonald, M.J. McDonald, Olivia Rodriguez and Eric “Jr.” Rodriguez; and a sister, Virginia Page of Big Piney, Mo.
Bill married Edna Bates on Sept. 22, 1956. They made their home in Licking, Mo., for over 40 years.
He worked at Fort Leonard Wood as a carpenter. When he was younger, he loved to go bowling. He also loved being outdoors while fishing, camping, hunting and gardening. After he retired, he dabbled in building cabinets.
Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010, at Evans Funeral Home. Services are 11 a.m. Friday July 9, 2010, at Boone Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Bobe and Pastor Billy Walker officiating. Burial will be in the Boone Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers are Maurice Forner, Len Chambers, Wilford Grover, Dale Diedrich, Scott Bisker and Steve Buckner. Services were under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
