Elmer Eugene Vasseur

Elmer Eugene Vasseur, 66, son of Eugene Franklin and Alfia (Harrington) Vasseur, was born Nov. 28, 1943, in Bayou Meto, Ark. He was taken from us in a fatal accident Aug. 8, 2010, near his home in Ellis Prairie, Mo.

Preceding him in death were his parents and seven brothers and sisters.

Elmer is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jeanie (Marrs) Vasseur of the home in Bucyrus; his mother-in-law, Hazel Marrs of Houston, Mo.; a brother, Butler Vasseur and wife, Carol, of Dewitt, Ark.; a sister, Ola Sanders and husband, Sonny, of Conway, Ark.; seven children, Jackie Strydom and husband, Derek, of Eldorado Springs, Mo., Charlotte Vasseur of Little Rock, Ark., Adam Vasseur and wife, Christina, of Bucyrus, Mo., Staff Sergeant Michael Vasseur and wife, Kimberly, of San Diego, Calif., Andrea Postlewait and husband, Brandon, of Bucyrus, Mo., and Matthew and Sarita Vasseur of the home in Bucyrus, Mo.

He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Staff Sergeant Jason Hopper and wife, Emily, Whitney Hopper, Marcus and Joseph Mealler, James, Charles and Shelby Vasseur, Fallyn and Felecia Ozbun, Braeden Vasseur, Kaiden Wantland, Sienna Postlewait, Shiloh Vasseur and Samantha Vasseur; and two great-grandchildren, Hannah Hopper and Elijah Mealler.

Elmer “Hutch” was a volunteer fireman and a member of the Jaycees. He was employed by the Lee factory for 18 years and seven years for the Brown Shoe Company. He has owned and operated Hutch & Son Construction for the past 18 years.

He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed hunting.

Elmer “Hutch” was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10 at Evans Funeral Home, Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11 at Evans Funeral Home with Pastor Brock Davis officiating. Pallbearers were Jimmy Sanders, Jason Hopper, David Murray, Donald Atterbury, Delmer Richardson, Tom Rector and Brandon Postlewait. Burial was in the Ellis Prairie Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
