Ruth Margaret (Drischel) Westlund, age 86, daughter of George and May (English) Drischel, was born Jan. 24, 1924, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She passed away Aug. 12, 2010, at the Texas County Memorial Hospital, Houston, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and May; her husband, Harland Westlund; and two sons, Mike and Steve Westlund.
Ruth is survived by Cindy, Steven and Gianna Westlund of the home in Houston, Mo.; sister Dorothy Blymyer of Harrison, Ohio; Jason and Joni Westlund, Jarod Westlund, Mike Westlund, Larissa and Michael Connolly, all of Wisconsin; Joshua and Christina Watson of Illinois; Naomi Westlund of Minnesota; and Scott Westlund of Pennslyvania. Also surviving are nine other great-grandchildren, Nolan, Mitchell, Judy, Ellie, Megan, Kale, Katherine, Isaac and Julia.
Ruth retired as an LPN of 32 years from Wisconsin of the OBGYN Clinic. She enjoyed spending time with the children and was known as “Grandma Ruth.” Everyone that knew her will always remember what “wonder why” meant. She enjoyed her Happy Meals, pork chops and sauerkraut and sweets. Ruth spent most days playing Gin and watching Bonanza. She also loved to hum; even on her last day at the hospital she was humming a song.
Her friends, Jerry and Fran Bobe, used to sneak her cookies and she loved apple pies from Uncle John. When she and Aunt Pat played cards she would always laugh because she cheated. Ruth also enjoyed BBQ’s and watching cartoons with Steven and GiGi. She looked most forward to getting a card weekly from her sister, Dorothy.
Ruth was an amazing, strong willed woman who we will always love and cherish in our hearts forever.
We love you, Grandma Ruth.
The family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Ruth Westlund memorial fund, c/o Evans Funeral Home in lieu of floral arrangements.
