Texas County sales tax revenue finished down during the latest monthly distribution.

Texas County’s sales tax revenue jumped about 9 percent during the latest monthly reporting period, continuing an upward trend.

Merchants in Texas County collect three, half-cent sales tax. All three totaled about $71,700 each, said the Missouri Department of Revenue.

For the first seven months of the year, each has contributed more than $542,000 each. That’s up about $16,500 on each.

Houston’s sales tax revenue jumped about 6 percent from the same period a year ago, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.

 

 

The latest monthly report shows monies from a one-cent sales tax totaled about $49,097, which is up about $2,821 from the same period a year ago. For the year, $373,097 has been collected. That’s a decrease of about $1,661 from the same seven months a year ago.

Revenue from two, quarter-cent sales – used for streets, sidewalks and utility work – totaled about $12,014 each. That’s up $680 each from the same period a year ago.

An eighth-cent sales tax totaled $6,007 for debt repayment on a city fire truck.

The reports are considered a good barometer of economic activity.
