A plan to expand library services in Summersville received a setback when a grant application was denied.

The Texas County Library board sought a Community Development Block Grant to allow it to acquire a building and do renovations to relocate the Summersville branch.

Audrey Barnhart, library director, said the application didn’t score high enough to receive funding.

The board has worked over the last several years – in partnership with its foundation – to improve facilities. A building was purchased and renovated for a new home of the Licking branch a few years ago. It also would like to construct a new library in Houston and continues to work on that project.
