Weanice Dean Briggs, 80, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, in an automobile accident.
He was born May 1, 1930 at Hartshorn, son of George Frank and Carrie A. Helton Briggs. He married Joyce Riley. They later divorced.
He was attending the Hartshorn Assembly of God Church. He was active at the Summersville Senior Center, where he ate lunch each day.
He served in the Army from Feb. 25, 1953, to Feb. 15, 1955.
He enjoyed bluegrass music and often went to the opera at the Summersville VFW Hall. He enjoyed playing cards at the Summersville Senior Center and at home with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Wave, Rosie, and Audrey; three brothers, Arnold, Vernon and Aubrey; and a step-son, Ricky Briggs.
Survivors include a daughter, Carrie Lynn Briggs of Columbia; a step-son, Randy Dale of Nixa; two sisters, Geraldine Derryberry of Licking and Maudelene Purcell of Salem; a brother, Lloyd Briggs of Mountain View; five step-grandchilden; two step great-grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends.
Services were Tuesday, Aug. 17, at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Steelman officiating. Burial with full military honors was in Summersville City Cemetery.
