Alta E. Linson, born Jan. 18, 1921, in Licking, Mo., passed into the arms of Jesus on Aug. 27, 2010, at the age of 89 years, seven months, and nine days.
Alta was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Irrie Linson; her parents, James and Nancy Pursifull; and 10 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her son, Roger Steve Linson and wife, Edna, of Springfield, Mo.; daughters, Carol Holt and husband, Richard, of Edgar Springs, Mo.; Diana Peterson of Springfield, Mo., and Nancy Hannaford and Danny of Pontiac, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Alta loved her family and all her many in-laws, friends and loved ones. She was an excellent cook and was lovingly referred to by family as “the best pie baker in Texas County.”
Alta traveled extensively throughout the U.S. during her and Irrie’s two-week annual vacations each summer with their four children. She treasured her memories of the “Pursifull family reunions” that have continued for 60 years, which began when all 11 children were still living and has long since continued with each generation. She especially loved the jeep rides with her husband and children on weekend outings. Throughout their 56 year marriage, Irrie and Alta hosted many, many family get- togethers, and there were always weekends and holidays when the house was full of relatives. Her family will always have fond memories of Alta’s sweet smile, soft voice, gracious personality and gentle disposition.
First and foremost in Alta’s life was her love for God. She was a devout Christian. She and Irrie and their four children shared their religious belief and attended the Baptist Church regularly and were members. Alta loved the Lord and was proud to publicly profess her love for Jesus.
Service for Alta were 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at Boone Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Ric Martinez of Milam, Texas, officiating. Interment was in Boone Creek Cemetery.
