Final preparations are under way for the Miss Texas County Scholarship Pageant. The annual event is Saturday at the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds.

Thirty girls from Houston, Licking, Plato, Raymondville and Mountain Grove will participate in six different age categories. The tiny little, petite and preteen groups will compete in private interview, on-stage question, talent and party dress beginning at 1 p.m. The miss and outstanding teen contestants will compete in private interview, on-stage question, talent and lifestyle/physical fitness. Those categories begin at 6 p.m.

Contestants’ talents range from piano, dance and singing to gymnastics, and magic performances.

Winners in the afternoon show will receive savings bonds. Scholarships will be awarded to the new Miss Texas County and Outstanding Teen. They are supported by The Bank of Houston, Progressive Ozark Bank, I.O.O.F. #372, Burch Insurance & Financial Services, Southern Missouri Financial Group, Gentry Construction, V.I.P. Properties and Delbert and Elaine Campbell.

The Miss Texas County pageant is a preliminary pageant to the Miss Missouri/Miss America. The new Miss Texas County and Miss Texas County Outstanding Teen will compete next year for the state titles in Mexico, Mo.
