TIGER TIDBITS: Houston coach David Williams expects Kaden Miller (concussion) to return to the lineup for Friday’s game against Lockwood. Miller will likely start at fullback and on the defensive line. …Senior Nick Portincaso moved from the defensive line to linebacker last week. Williams said he wanted to free him to make more plays. Portincaso had six tackles and forced a fumble.
HMS TIGERS: The seventh grade Tigers fell to 0-2-1 with a 8-0 loss Thursday to Salem. Tristan Cooper led Houston in rushing. Whitley Welch had an interception.
HOMECOMING: Queen coronation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday prior to the Tigers’ game against Lockwood. Candidates are: freshmen Maddie Vandiver and Sydney Cremer, sophomores Kenzie Scheets and Alexis Pounds, juniors Elizabeth Hayes and Carmen Floyd and seniors Alicia Lybyer and Tory Burgess. …The annual parade will arrive downtown around 1:55 p.m. Friday. Students will be dismissed from class 15 minutes earlier. …A dance for high school students will follow the football game.
ABOUT LOCKWOOD: The Tigers are 3-1 following Friday’s 56-6 loss to Miller. Lockwood previously won games against Diamond (49-14), Sarcoxie (21-6) and Rich Hill (33-8). A game against the Joplin JV was not official. …The Tigers compete in the Spring River League with Pierce City, Miller, Liberal, Greenfield, Sarcoxie, Jasper and Diamond. …Lockwood went 6-5 in 2009 and advanced to the state playoffs. The Tigers lost 36-21 to Thayer. …Lockwood is about 30 miles north of Mt. Vernon and a 2 1/2 hour drive from Houston.
