TIGER TIDBITS: The season opener at Cabool included 25 combined penalties for 215 yards. There were seven 15-yard penalties. The Tigers had 10 penalties for 65 yards and one 15-yard penalty. …Senior Jacob Case, who had 16 carries for 88 yards, has already eclipsed his season total from 2010. …Case handled the extra points and was 1-for-2. …Punter Randy Barker boomed a 52-yarder on his first kick of the season. His second didn’t go as well. Late in the third quarter, Barker couldn’t handle the snap from center and was tackled at the Houston 17-yard line. Cabool scored six plays later to stretch its lead to double figures. …Houston’s longest play from scrimmage was a 32-yard pass from Kyle Jones to Brian Hunter. The second-longest was a 28-yard run by Case.

ABOUT SALEM: The Tigers lost three fumbles, including one at the opponent’s 5-yard line, and had an interception in a 20-14 season-opening loss last week to Thayer. It was the Bobcats’ first game as a member of the SCA since 1987. …Salem gave up 327 rushing yards to Thayer. …The Tigers suffered four injuries in the game, according to the Salem News. The statuses of Jared Shorey (sprained arch), Johnnie Boyd (hyper extended knee), Carson Sheppard (ribs) and Jade Wisdom (concussion) were unknown Monday. …The Tigers return starters and three all-conference players from last year’s team that went 7-4 and won its first district championship since 2002. …Ryan Smith, an all-SCA defensive back last season, returns at quarterback after a year away from the position. …Bill Schuchardt is coaching his 30th season at Salem.
