Neldon Neal was found guilty this afternoon by a Morgan County jury on an involuntary manslaughter charge.

Neal, 64, was charged in the 2007 death of his wife, Judy Lewis.

Texas County Prosecutor Mike Anderson said he was pleased with the jury’s decision. Testimony began Monday afternoon and concluded late Tuesday afternoon. The jury deliberated until 10 o’clock Tuesday night before being sent home for the day. Its decision was announced Wednesday afternoon.

Neal led area lawmen on a 62-day manhunt after the killing at the couple’s Roby trailer.

An appeals court earlier threw out Neal’s second-degree murder conviction on a technicality.

Neal is currently serving a 17-year sentence for possessing a firearm as a felon.
