Erica Keeney had a team-high eight kills to lead the Houston volleyball team past Licking 25-17, 25-23 Tuesday night in the team’s season opener.

It was the coaching debut for first-year Lady Tigers coach Amy McNew, who was previously an assistant under Debbie James.

“I’m really happy with how we hung in there and handled pressure at the end of the second set,” McNew said.

Tory Burgess had eight assists and Sarah Pierce had five aces for the Lady Tigers (1-0). Caitlyn Neal added six assists and three aces.

JV VOLLEYBALL: Amber Sillyman had 12 assists and seven aces to lead the JV Lady Tigers past Licking 25-17, 25-16 Monday night.

Sarah Garrett led Houston (1-0) with eight kills. Demi Pittman added five. Sydney Cremer had three aces.
