Houston police are investigating two incidents where vehicle windows were broken and items taken.

Officers were called Aug. 29 after vandalism and a theft from a vehicle belonging to Tracy M. Derrick, 43, of Raymondville, were reported. Derrick told officers someone had thrown a concrete block through the front, passenger window of her car on the Houston House parking lot. A purse, checking book and several personal items were taken. The purse was valued at $15.

Another vehicle, belonging to Cheryl Harlan, also was entered. It was not locked, and some coins were taken.

Police also were called after property damage to a vehicle belonging to Alisha Hobaugh, 20, of Licking, was discovered. The vehicle, which had a passenger’s window broken, had been parked Aug. 31 at the Miller’s Grill parking lot. Missing were a purse and personal items, including two debits cards, a Six Flags pass and CDs. The loss was estimated at $250. The damage to the vehicle totaled $450.

One other similar incident has been reported recently in the city, police said.

In other matters, police:

-Investigated a Sept. 1 accident that police said occurred when a vehicle driven by Adam R. Stikeleather, 22, of Raymondville, struck a vehicle driven by Brandon A. Derrick, 25, of Raymondville. Stikeleather was arrested on charges of DWI, drugs and failure to drive on the right half of the right-of-way. The mishap occurred near U.S. 63 and Highway B.

-Arrested Sara E. Michael, 38, of 7444 Highway 17, with DWI on Sept. 4.

-Arrested Brandon D. Jones, 26, of 114 E. Chestnut, on a Texas County warrant charging him with operating a motor vehicle without financial proof. He posted $500 bond on Sept. 3.

-Cited Loyd L. Mitchell, 85, of Summersville, with failure to yield the right-of-way on Sept. 3. Mitchell struck a truck operated by Joel N. Thomas, 45, of Hillsboro. The accident occurred near East Highway 17 and South Sam Houston Blvd.

-Charged Terry L. Snelling, 54, of 205 S. Third St., with failing to yield the right-of-way following a Sept. 2 accident. Snelling was backing out of a Walnut Street parking lot when he struck a truck driven by Wilbert L. Robbins, 78, of Licking.

-Cited Kayla L. Cooper, 20, of 7334 Brown Hill Road, and Ann M. Steveneson, 19, of 8472 Mineral Drive, with minor in possession of alcohol – by consumption – on Sept. 4.

-Investigated an Aug. 30 crash near U.S 63 and South Industrial Drive. Police said a truck and trailer driven by Heath D. Newby, 34, of Mountain View, had to make an abrupt stop to avoid a crash and was forced to travel on the shoulder. The right side tires of the towed unit went off the shoulder, causing the truck to slide down a dirt embankment and jackknife.

-Arrested Martin S. Shannon, 37, of Licking, on two Jefferson County warrants charging him last week with failing to appear on traffic offenses He was unable to post $176 bond.

-Arrested Shawn R. Edwards, 20, of Licking, on a Phelps County warrant for failure to appear on a burglary charge. He was taken to the Texas County Jail to await extradition to Phelps County on Sept. 2.

-Were called Sept. 5 to a dispute on Orchard Grove, where a gun was reportedly pulled on a man who would not leave. Officers aid several persons were at a party and intoxicated. The victim was taken to his residence by a state trooper. The investigation continues.
