Texas County resident Mike Drozdo has been named 2010 Fire Instructor of the Year by the Department of the Army. Drozdo is assistant fire chief of the Raymondville volunteer fire department and president of the Texas County fire chiefs association.

The efforts of one of Texas County’s most dedicated volunteer firefighters have not gone unnoticed.

Michael Drozdo of Raymondville was named 2010 Dept. of the Army Fire Instructor of the Year at the International Association of Fire Chiefs Conference held during the first week of September in Chicago.

Drozdo, 41, works full-time as a captain for the Fort Leonard Wood Fire Department and is a part-time paramedic for Texas County Memorial Hospital. He is also president of the Texas County Fire Chiefs Association and assistant fire chief of the Raymondville Volunteer Fire Department.

Not only did Drozdo win the Instructor award, he was also nominated for 2009 Department of Defense Firefighter of the Year, an award he won in 2004.

He has been toiling with the Raymondville fire department since 2005.

“This is an incredible, unexpected experience,” he said.
