Military veteran

Clarence Raymond McComas, 82, of Plato, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield.

He was born Feb. 17, 1928, in Brownsville, Neb., son of Leonard and Pearl McComas. He and Helen Smallfoot were married June 6, 1949, in Fall City, Neb.

He and his wife moved to Plato in 1953. He served in the Army and retired from the Air Force Exchange Service in 1993. He had many occupations, including farming and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; his parents; a brother; and an infant daughter.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Jo of the home and Patricia Von Holten of Springfield; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and three siblings, Bert McComas of Success, Leonard Mitchell McComas of Brownsville, Neb., and Dorothy Boyer of Sterling, Colo.

Graveside services were Saturday, Oct. 2, at Pisgah Cemetery in Plato under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pisgah Cemetery.
