Dedication of the Texas County Law Enforcement Memorial is Saturday on the grounds of the Texas County Justice Center.

Ceremonies recognize the sacrifices that led to the death of Constable Charles B. Dorris, 1888; Constable James Farris, 1909; Sheriff Harry S. Kelly, 1931; Tpr. Kelly L. Poynter, 2002; and Tpr. Kevin Floyd, 2005. The event coincides with the 165th anniversary of Texas County.

Sketches about each of the officers:

Dorris – of Summersville – was shot and killed while transporting a prisoner to jail.

Farris, deputy constable for Cabool, was shot and killed there.

Kelly, the county sheriff, died from injuries sustained in a November 1931 car wreck near Raymondville. The car rolled, and he died the next month in a Springfield hospital.

Poynter, a Missouri State Highway Patrol officer from Houston, died after he was struck by a drunk driver south of Houston.

Floyd, a Missouri State Patrol officer from Licking, died after he was struck near U.S. 60 by a motorist.
