Denney Brown, 81, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at Rolla Manor Care Center.

He was born Feb. 12, 1929, in Bucyrus, son of Doyle Edwin and Ruby Ellen Denney Brown. He and Patricia Crow were married April 13, 1952, in Reno, Nev.

He grew up in the Bucyrus area and attended grade school at Piney Ridge. He graduated from Houston High School in 1948.

He entered the Navy on May 20, 1948, and served as senior chief communications technician. He was transferred from active duty to the fleet reserve on May 21, 1968.

After retiring from the military, he sold insurance in Texas and Wright counties as an agent at Farm Bureau in Houston and Cameron Mutual in Cabool. He later sold farm implement equipment at his farm in Solo.

He loved visiting with family and friends and spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joann.

Survivors include two sons, Steven W. Brown of Oakland, Calif., and Edwin C. Brown of Vallejo, Calif.; four daughters, Terry E. Mings of Norfolk, Va., Denise F. Davis of Vienna, Cindy Williams of Lynchburg and Stacy L. Blakley of Rolla; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Norman Brown of Rolla.

Services were Monday, Oct. 4, at Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kendall Ford officiating. Burial with full military honors was in Pine Lawn Cemetery.
