A meeting was held Monday night to discuss ways to improve communication in the community.

“Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success,” said Sharon Horbyk, Houston Area Chamber of Commerce director, quoting Henry Ford, inventor. Community and civic group leaders congregated Monday at city hall on the invitation of Horbyk and Mayor Steve Hutcheson. The goal was to discuss ways to increase communication between organizations and plan more effectively for the upcoming year.

Those present were made aware of the new free community calendar feature available on the Houston Herald website (www.houstonherald.com/calendar). By posting upcoming activities, organizations will be able to prevent scheduling conflicts and better plan dates and times for their activities. The Herald plans to develop an instructional guide as encouragement for group usage.

Representatives of the following groups were present at the meeting:

*Parks and Recreation

*Ministerial Alliance

*Downtown Houston Inc.

* Houston Herald

*Girl Scouts

*University Extension

*Houston Sorosis Club

*Houston Schools

*Texas County Relay for Life

*City of Houston

*Houston Education Foundation

*Houston Community Foundation

*Houston Area Chamber of Commerce

Horbyk hopes group participation and communication will continue to grow. She may be contacted at the chamber office for questions.
