Stefan Weinpert Jr., 71, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at Texas County Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 14, 1938, in Belisce Croatia, Yugoslavia, son of Stephan and Anna Heberling Weinpert Sr. He and Agnes Basinger were married Oct. 30, 1965, in Chicago.
He grew up and lived in Yugoslavia until he was 16 years old. In 1954, he moved to Germany and two years later, he moved to the United States.
He worked as a maintenance supervisor at a factory in Wisconsin. He loved history and all sports, especially Chicago teams. He watched the news, westerns and the History Channel. He enjoyed the outdoors and taking trips on his motorcycle. He played the guitar, mandolin and harmonica. He also sang.
He enjoyed many types of food, including Italian sausage, Italian beef, Vienna beef hot dogs, gyros, Dunkin Donuts, bagels and coffee and his daily senior coffee from McDonalds.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Helen and Bratslav.
Survivors include a son, Nicholas Weinpert of Houston; a daughter, Vicki Jo Kurz of Eureka; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Anna Marie “Mitzi” Sommer; a niece; a nephew; a great-niece; a great-nephew; and many other relatives in many parts of the world.
Services were Saturday, Oct. 9, at Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor David Kettner officiating. The body was cremated.
