Voters will decide a half-cent sales tax measure in February at Licking that would allow for the first community swimming pool.

Residents of Licking will decide early in 2011 whether they will accept a half-cent raise in sales tax to fund a project for the construction of a community pool.

The proposal will be on the ballot Feb. 8.

The planned facility would feature elements that would cater to all age groups. Toddlers would have their own play area including a slide and spraying water, while teens and adults would have use of a figure-8 water slide, Olympic-style swim lanes, a one-meter diving board and an oval-shaped “lazy river.”

The facility would also have a pool house with separate facilities for men and women, concession stands and umbrella-shaded areas.

The last day to register to vote on the proposal is Jan. 12. If it passes, the pool will be built at Deer Lick Park.
