Texas County's top law enforcement officer got into the act during firearms deer season. Using a Browning 270 rifle, Sheriff Carl Watson shot this 12-point buck on Nov. 16 from a deer stand on his property in the Solo area. Watson, who has hunted every year since he could hold up a gun, had seen the animal a few mornings earlier, but didn't have a good enough shot at him. The buck was the largest Watson had ever shot; his scale only went up to 160 pounds and the big deer bottomed it out. "It was nothing spectacular," Watson said, "but it was pretty good for me."
