A Texas County woman was sentenced Monday to a total of 12 years in prison for her role in a November 2008 crash west of Houston.
Texas County Prosecutor Mike Anderson said Christi L. Gabel earlier entered a guilty plea to two counts of involuntary manslaughter after the deaths of Emmitt “Kenny” Ward, 78, of Bucyrus, in January 2009, and his wife, Edith, 76, in April 2009. Both were involved in a collision that authorities said was caused by Gabel as she crossed the Highway 17 centerline near Dog’s Bluff west of Houston.
Gabel also entered a guilty plea to a possession of a controlled substance charge. Circuit Judge Mary Sheffield gave the sentence to Gabel who is already incarcerated at a women’s prison at Vandalia on an unrelated forgery case. In that matter, she received a five-year term.
