A Marine unit in Afghanistan will receive a boost from the generosity of area residents.

Organizers gathered items to send about 150 care packages for a company of Marines.

Christy Campbell and Tim Ceplina, who worked on the effort, said they were pleased with the response.

“We want to thank all the citizens and businesses who helped, donated and supported this effort,” they said. Dozens donated cash and items.

They highlighted the support from Neal’s Sporting Goods, Town and Country Supermarket, Dr. Matt Pigg, Romines Motor Co. Inc., Southern Inn and Lazy L Motel. Others participated in a softball tournament at Licking.

Any remaining money remaining will be donated to the Wounded Warrier Project, which helps seriously wounded soldiers and marines.
