A man claiming to be a white supremacist was cited by Houston police after an altercation last week.

Officers charged Chad A. Kirk, 25, of 112 Spruce St., No. 2, with third-degree assault following a Nov. 1 incident at 412 Phelps. According to police, Kirk was performing “Nazi salutes” and said “Heil Hilter” and acknowledged he was a white supremacist. Kirk later struck a 24-year-old man in the mouth who had objected to the behavior.

Kirk initially fled, but returned when officers left.

Police later questioned him at his apartment, where he showed them he had been treated at a hospital for injuries sustained in the altercation. Staples were used to close a head wound, and he was wearing a sling on his right arm. He also said his right little finger was broke, and he had a laceration from what he described as a knife wound.

A records check showed that Kirk was wanted on a Tennessee warrant of aggravated criminal trespass, but that state would not extradite.

In other matters, police:

-Investigated a report of identity theft Nov. 1 from Paul D. Zimmermann, 1211 S. Sam Houston Blvd. Someone was using his personal information to obtain credit, and a monitoring service advised him.

-Arrested Jamie K. Lewis, 309 Holt, on Nov. 1 on a Texas County warrant charging him with not having insurance to operate a motor vehicle.

-Were called to an altercation Oct. 23 in the front lobby of the Texas County Jail. The matter is under review by the city’s prosecutor’s office.

-Concluded their investigation into an Oct. 23 fight at a demolition derby. The results have been turned over to the city prosecutor’s office.
