Margaret “Maggie” Monachesi, 96, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at Texas County Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 21, 1914, in Collinsville, Ill., daughter of Julius and Adele Peila. She and Libero “Monty” Monachesi were married Aug. 26, 1943.
She became a registered nurse in 1935 at St. Johns-Mercy in St. Louis. She worked as head nurse with Tri-State Red Cross from 1950 until 1968. After retiring in 1971, she moved with her husband to Montauk, where they enjoyed fishing and hosting friends for dinner.
She moved to Maplecrest Apartments in the 1990s and moved to Licking Residential Care in December 2004.
She was a charter member of the Montauk Homemakers Club, where she attended as long as her health permitted. She loved the St. Louis Cardinals and playing Scrabble.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia White of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Saleska Wickman of San Diego, Calif.; a niece and nephew; and several cousins and special friends.
Services were Saturday, Nov. 13, at St. John Catholic Church of Licking with Father Matthew Rehrauer officiating. Burial was in Green Forest Cemetery in Salem.
