The Texas County Memorial Hospital Fitness Center has relocated from its West Highway 17 location to the new Houston Optimist Community Center on First Street in Houston.

TCMH is leasing space from the Optimist Club to provide more space and amenities for fitness center members, the hospital said. The new location provides men’s and women’s locker rooms with showers, a separate “women’s only” workout area and a large room for classes.

The community center is located in the original First Baptist Church of Houston, which later housed the  Stained Glass Theatre and the Texas County Health Department.

Monthly memberships at the TCMH Fitness Center are $30 for individuals, $40 for couples and $50 for families. Discounts are available for annual payments. Automatic bank withdrawal for monthly membership is also available. There is a sign-up fee of $15 for new members.

Classes are offered weekly. They include step aerobics, kickboxing and intense abdominal workouts. The daily fitness classes are free to members and are open to anyone 12 and older.

A special class for area senior citizens is also offered three times a week. There is no charge.

All classes are taught by Marlon Richison, fitness center director.

The TCMH Fitness Center is open 5:30-11 a.m. and noon until 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is also open 8 a.m. until noon Saturdays.

An open house for the fitness center will be held at a future date.
