Rep. Don Wells, R-Cabool, presents Raymond Johanson a resolution during a Veterans Day ceremony Sunday at Ozark Baptist Church east of Houston. Johnanson is believed to the oldest living World War II veteran in Texas County.

Three Texas County school districts will host ceremonies to honor veterans this week.

Houston: The 11th annual veterans tribute is 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Hiett Gymnasium.

Steve Grant of KY3, who has been involved in the Ozarks Honor Flight Program that honors World War II veterans, is the speaker. A reception follows. Refreshment will be served. All veterans are invited.

Raymondville: Raymondville School will host the Fort Leonard Wood Band at its Veterans Day celebration on Tuesday morning.

The 8:30 a.m. event will allow area veterans to attend other activities on the actual Veterans Day, Nov. 11, an organizer said.

Steve Jackson, who has worked with the Honors Flight Program to Washington, D.C., will show a slide show. World War II veterans have a “guardian” who accompanies them on the trip. He has served in that capacity. Applications for veterans and guardians will be available at the school event.

All veterans are invited. After the program, students will visit with veterans to ask questions about their experiences. Veterans are encouraged to bring uniforms, photos or any memorabilia that reflect their war experiences.

Plato: A special Veteran’s Day program honoring all veterans is 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, at Plato High School gym, Highway 32.

Everyone is invited, especially veterans and their families.
