The Houston eighth grade boys’ basketball team avenged an 18-point loss to Licking by defeating the Wildcats 56-49 Tuesday at home.

Kolby Walker scored 22 points and Devin Garrett had 19 for Houston, which led 24-14 after the first quarter.

Licking beat the Tigers in the third game of the season.

“I am very proud of their effort and the way they used the loss earlier in the year as motivation for this game,” Houston coach Willy Walker said. “Going into this game, each kid had a different task they were to complete to achieve our goal. We did by winning, which was a 25-point turn around from the previous game.”

SEVENTH BOYS: D.J. McNew scored 19 points in the Tigers’ 50-33 romp Tuesday of Licking.

Skylur Malam added 11 points for Houston, which led by 10 after the opening quarter and 31-9 at the half.

The Tigers, who were 15-for-21 at the foul line, improved to 7-1 and have won six consecutive games.

“These kids are very disciplined and are willing to do the things it takes to win, no matter how tough the task may be,” Walker said. “I am proud of each kid and the work ethic they have shown me striving to get better every day.”
