Eugene Arthur Jackson, 79, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2010.

He was born Aug. 16, 1931, in Success, son of Vernon and Ruby Jackson. He and Edna Mae Macomber were married May 4, 1956, in East St Louis.

He and his wife were baptized in Parsons, Kan., in 1960. They were members of Success Baptist Church for more than 35 years.

He served as a MP in the Air Force from Oct. 3, 1946, through Dec. 13, 1949. He earned a World War II Victory Medal and Japan Occupation Service Medal.

Gene worked in the California oil fields for 10 years before moving back to Missouri with his family. He returned to California, after his children were grown, to again work in the oil fields. He lived his last few years in Missouri.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Mae Jackson of the home; three children, Rita Ramsey of Bucyrus, Jimmy Jackson and Jackie Pinkston of Success; a sister, Doris Swindell of St. James; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were Thursday, Dec. 23, at Success Baptist Church with Pastor Ted Moore officiating. Burial was in Cavaness Cemetery under the direction of Fox Funeral Home.
