About 18 percent of the county's 16,139 registered voters arrived at polls Tuesday. That's 2,898.

Filings opened Tuesday for several offices that will be filled on the April ballot.

Longtime Houston official Steve Hutcheson will not seek re-election as mayor. It’s a position he has held for 12 years. He also served eight years as alderman. Running for his slot is Don Tottingham. Charles “Chalky” Wells filed in Ward II. Incumbent Sharon Sillyman will seek re-election in Ward I.

Incumbents filed for county positions: Omanez Fockler, Texas County Memorial Hospital; and Sally Smith, Texas County Health Department board.

Board members Tom Dunn and Jo Holland are seeking re-election to the Houston board of education.
